The recent introduction of central heating was all surface mounted but too late to save all the damp loose plaster throughout. It was a fascinating stripping back process to reveal the history of the building. We replaced plaster cornices and ceiling roses, introduced more fanlights to bring the west light into the hallway which in these flats are such important spaces.
We moved the kitchen into the best room of the flat overlooking the park. This combine living, dining and kitchen space was enlarged by combining a large closet space and running the kitchen units and appliances along a wall of joinery that can be closed up when not in use.
