This semi-detached Victorian property had generous sized rooms but a very circuitous route.
Scope
Concept design
Planning permission in a conservation area
Interiors specification
We eliminated much of the circulation through a series of design iterations until we landed on the right balance.
A view through the house was a must for the client and this brought South light from the front into the heart of the home. The result is a cosy snug area with a wood burner, a hide all utility and pantry, a contemporary kitchen and glazed roof, all behind walls of bath stone. New views into the garden were made from a kitchen window seat and a giant pivot door. Redundant former corridors became a WC, pantry and utility space.
Inventive touches were added throughout the house with sliding pocket doors connecting the main bathroom to two bedrooms, and a shower room to the main bedroom.
Original features such as plaster cornicing and ceiling roses were reinstated. Windows were replaced with double glazed sash units to match the originals and improve insulation.
A lot of boxes were ticked in this project and the results are joyous.
