The ground floor was opened up previously but because of the varied levels it wasn’t well integrated. The top of the house had not yet been developed which gave great scope for a light an airy extension.
The new owners came to us to completely re-imagine the house into a more contemporary house they hope to live in for twenty years. Starting at the top we created a mansard loft extension to include a double height space with access to the rear roof terrace.
New openings at the top floor give a view to a church spire across the park and bring light down through the full width open landing and stairwell. We moved the kitchen to the middle of the ground floor to overlook the dining and casual living opening onto new doors to the garden. At the front of the house were-instated a formal from living room. A new lightwell to the front garden will add light to a new games room in the basement.
